History of the Club

East Shropshire Riding Club has been in existence for over 25 years; originally called the Tong Riding Club because it was based at Tong Riding Centre nr Shifnal. Gradually moving away from Tong and using different venues the club became known as East Shropshire Riding Club. The Club is affiliated to the British Riding Clubs movement which is part of the British Horse Society, based at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.

Our Membership currently stands at around 100 members and includes seniors, juniors and non-riders who come from a wide range of places around the West Midlands, South Staffordshire and East Shropshire.
We have a Committee of 11 members who organise rallies throughout the year both in Dressage, Jumping & Cross country as well as quiz nights and lectures. We send teams to the area qualifiers for the national Riding Club championships in Horse Trials, Dressage, Show Jumping & Dressage to Music. During the summer we also organise monthly shows at the showground at Rudge, nr Pattingham, Wolverhampton, which are open to members and non-members alike and include both Dressage classes, Show Jumping classes
and new for 2008…… Combined training and Showing classes.

All in all East Shropshire Riding Club is a friendly, forward thinking riding club which has stood the test of time and we intend to be around for many more years to come.
